Training and Development

Supporting Superior Outcomes

Therapeutic InterventionThe route to superior outcomes for young people can only be navigated with the support of carers that possess the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitude.

With this in mind, Ethelbert Childrens Services have made considerable investment in the training and professional development of the entire ECS team.

Our dedicated training centre, equipped with the latest in learning aids and resources, is accredited by both City & Guilds and OCR for the delivery of NVQ qualifications at levels 3, 4 and 5, and has achieved the recognition of both  ‘Investors in People’ and ‘ISO 9001’.

Investors in PeopleTraining courses run almost every weekday, cover a wide range of relevant subjects, and are always facilitated by expert trainers, both internal and external to the organisation.

Learners are fully supported by a professional training team and have 24 hour access to our intranet site, which provides learning and reference materials within a modern interactive environment.

CWDC Induction Programme

Children's Workforce Development CouncilThe Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) common induction standards were adopted by ECS at the time of their launch for residential care workers in 2006 and foster carers in 2007. New team members are supported through the programme by senior staff members, who ensure it is a major focus of the supervision process during the first six months of employment.

To further support the smooth induction of new team members, a five day training course is attended that is mapped to both the CWDC common standards and the Every Child Matters outcomes.

Subscription to the CIS online assessment site, where candidates’ knowledge can be assessed and verified, ensures that the induction process is correctly implemented and that the desired learning outcomes are consistently achieved.

Accredited NVQ Centre

OCRCity and GuildsThe ECS Training and Development department operates out of its own dedicated training centre that is accredited by City and Guilds and OCR for the awarding of NVQs in health and social care and management. All care staff and managers have personal development plans that ensure the correct level of professional development from NVQ level 3 in health and social care, up to level 5 awards in management and specialised subject areas.

Ongoing Training & Development

The centre operates a comprehensive training programme throughout the year providing thirteen mandatory courses and more than twenty specialised courses designed to meet the specific needs of individual client groups.

All managers and seniors have access to the online training programme via the organisation's intranet facility where courses can be identified and booked in accordance with their team's development requirements.

The training and development centre is a modern resource that provides study areas with internet and library access, personal support as required and training rooms equipped with the latest in interactive, electronic teaching aids.

Management Development Programme

Training CourseThe training and development centre also facilitates a rolling management development programme that is open to all managers and any senior care workers that have been identified as having management potential.

Management development days are held once a month, during which training sessions covering the management functions, such as; supervision, time management, legislation, conflict resolution etc are delivered. This ongoing approach to management training ensures our senior team are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage efficient, organised and motivated staff teams.

Intranet Resource

An online intranet resource is available to all members of the organisation and provides a wealth of learning and development aids, together with useful resources, reference materials and links to websites providing opportunities for self-development and research.

An example of the resources available is an interactive version of National Minimum Standards. The resource was compiled for user friendly access to the standards, and to ease the understanding of how the standards have been reorganised by Ofsted to map the outcomes of Every Child Matters.
