Why be a Carer with Ethelbert Fostering Services?

Unrivalled Support & Benefits

Comprehensive Support

Carer with childWe pride ourselves on being child and family friendly. We are a small team who work closely together enabling us all to know every foster carer and every child in our service.

Every carer registered with our agency receives first class support from our carefully selected team of supervising social workers, all of whom are all fully qualified and experienced in working with children and families. This is a policy we strive to maintain at all times as we firmly believe it to be a fundamental requirement for foster carers to succeed and for the children and young people they care for to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Each of our supervising social workers have protected case loads to ensure that they can devote sufficient time and attention to each of their carers and families without being preoccupied or harassed by too much to do in too little time. We believe that your development can only be as good as the level of support you receive and, as our success is dependent on yours, we will never cut corners or spread our professionals too thinly.

Help & Advice Whenever You Need It

24hr SupportOur carers can access professional support, advice and guidance from a qualified social worker whenever the need arises - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We recognise that situations requiring immediate support can occur at any time of the day or night and fully understand the frustration and isolation carers experience if their requests for assistance are only heard during daylight hours. When you need us, we'll always be there!

Peer Support and Networking

When you are a foster carer, it can be all too easy to feel that you are acting alone and that your friends and extended family can't empathise with the important and sometimes challenging role you undertake. In addition to the professional support you will receive, we provide local support group meetings where you can catch-up with other carers, exchange experiences and learn from each other whist relaxing over lunch. Additionally, we organise regular days out and trips to events or places of interest for carers, their families and the children they care for to enjoy, mingle with others and form valuable friendships.

Going the Extra Mile

ECS FosteringIn order to ensure our carers can fulfill their roles with as little complication as possible, we provide additional support when required which can include, but are not exclusive to, day care, transport or one-to-one support when faced with the difficult situations that can sometimes arise and would benefit from a team approach.

Some young people in foster care benefit greatly from specialist assessment or privately sourced therapy or counselling sessions. In such circumstances, all funding requirements are met by the organisation to ensure that the best level of service is provided to all children and young people. You may need to use your skills to encourage them to engage in the services, but you'll be comfortable in the knowledge that all costs are completely covered.

Deserved Rewards

ECS FosteringBeing a foster carer can be challenging, stressful and hard work. However, it is also one of the most rewarding roles a person can undertake as you see your efforts reflected by the smiles and achievements of the children and young people you care for. However, we believe that your devotion and determination should be amply rewarded financially as well as emotionally.

Carers with Ethelbert Fostering Services receive weekly payments, per child, of between £385 and £600. In addition to this, an annual payment of £385 per child is made to help towardssummer holiday costs. All carers also receive two weeks paid respite allowance per year to ensure you have a well earned rest. However, if respite isn't considered necessary by the carer and supervising social worker, two weeks additional payments are made each financial year.

If there are times when you have no children or young people in your care or are between placements, four weeks retainer payments (per annum) are made to help ease the transition periods.

How do I apply?
